Tourism Management

1.1      Philosophy

          Create a new science knowledge in tourism management, combined with consistent and quality service management with modern innovation. It’s outstanding in tourism activities that are environmentally friendly, in order to create skills in research process, which integrates science in both social and modern technology together with local intellects. For the purpose of sustainable development and being accepted in international academic circles.

1.2      Importance

This is an international program aimed at developing human resources for learning and innovation, including theories and concepts in service and tourism management. By focusing on the development of human potentials as well as integrating all 4 dimensions, such as body, mind, society and intelligence. Including the conservation and development of natural resources and the environment

1.3      Objectives

In order to produce a master graduate to meet the quality standards with the desirable characteristics as follows;

  1. To produce graduates that are expert in utilizing knowledge in the management of environmentally friendly tourism. Produce graduates that filled with professional morals and ethics
  2. Develop a system of thinking processes and transmissions that are further enriched by knowledge. Produce graduates that has the ability to analyze spatially in tourism business management, marketing, finance and accounting.
  3. To produce graduates with research process skills that Integrate both social science and behavior science in the integration of innovation or technology to communicate with local wisdom for the benefit of society Nation and international.
  4. To produce a graduate that possess that ability to use acceptable foreign language in the academic sector internationally.

1.4      Educational System

The Educational system in Maejo University International Colleges, Maejo University uses a binary education system, 1 academic year is divided into 2 regular semesters, 1 regular semester has a study period of not less than 15 weeks.

Planning for agro-tourism as a means for a sustainable economy, culture, way of life, and farm development in agricultural areas occurs within the context of conservation management. Leadership and strategic international business skills are necessary for thriving in the global economy. Policy formulation and implementation that will enable facilitate international businesses, and trade practices in a vibrant global business environment. International business, international trade practices for example (i.e. local and global trading organizations), international business strategies and operations, cultural, social, and political dimensions of global businesses, logistic management, communication, and negotiation in global businesses

The strategic use of intercultural synergies, employee engagement, and customer loyalty. The knowledge and skills in practicing principles for optimizing human performance in organizations, cultural intelligence, human diversity, leading and managing intercultural organizations. Global cultures, subcultures, and domestic cultures. Specialists in strategy, management, leadership, human resources, services marketing, and entrepreneurship.

The study of concepts of regional and theories that are related to geographical and regional evolution. Structures of regionalism and regional determination of tourism geography. Elements of regional geography that has an impact on economic, social, and cultures. The application of natural and cultural diversity in the region to strengthen tourism

The role of a human resource professional; participation strategy in managing today's service organizations. Key functions such as recruitment, selection, development, appraisal, retention, compensation, and labor relationships are examined. Implications of legal and global environments, appraisal and current issues such as diversity training, sexual harassment policies, and the rising benefit costs are analyzed. Best practices of employers of choice are considered

TM 540       Green Marketing Tourism

The impact of human consumption on the environment and development of tourism marketing strategies to improve the human-environment interaction through creation, communication, and delivery of superior value and customer relationship management. Green marketing examines the symbolic role played by marketing in tourism business sustainability. The environmental issues and challenges confronting marketers in the 21st century and how their strategic decisions and actions can make a major difference to the improvement or degradation of the marketing environment.

Leadership management theories and concepts. The opportunity to apply these theories through case study and analysis to enhance personal skills development through self-assessment exercises. Identification of current leaders and leadership as well as contemporary perspectives on ethics, networking, coaching, organizational culture, diversity, learning organizations, strategic leadership, and crisis leadership

Prerequisite: As approved by program committee

Independent study at the master's level is characterized by analysis and study of data related to major courses and writing a report, under the supervision and recommendation of the student advisor

Graduation Conditions:

For the students studying in Plan A, Type A 1

1.     Pass a foreign language examination according to the regulations and conditions set by the university.
2.     Present their theses in English and pass a final oral examination conducted by a committee appointed by the university (a higher education institution) in a system open to interested parties to attend. This must consist of professors in charge of the program and experts from outside the university.
3.     At least one paper stemmed from their theses or part of them must be published or at least accepted for publication in a national journal in a foreign language or an international journal. Both journals must be qualified according to the Announcement of the Commission on Higher Education on Criteria for Considering Academic Journals for Dissemination of Academic Output. 
4.     Meet the criteria for graduation under the Announcement of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on Standard Criteria for Graduate Programs B.E. 2558.

 

For the students studying in Plan A, Type A 2

1.     Complete all the courses as specified in the program. They must obtain a grade point average of not less than 3.00 from a 4-level system or equivalent and have no course received I and/or Op.
2.     Pass a foreign language exam according to the regulations and conditions set by the university.

3.     Pass a comprehensive examination.
4.     Present their independent studies in English and pass the final oral exam conducted by a committee appointed by the higher education institution in a system open to interested parties to attend.
5.     At least one full paper stemmed from their independent studies or part of them must be presented at an international conference and then published in the proceedings.
6.     Meet the criteria for graduation under the Announcement of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation on Standard Criteria for Graduate Programs B.E. 2558.

 

9. Applicant Qualifications

1.        Graduated with a bachelor's degree in all disciplines or equivalent from a higher education institution certified by the Ministry of Education or the Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) or the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) both domestically and internationally or at the discretion of the instructor in charge of the program.
2.        Having qualifications according to Maejo University regulations on graduate studies and other relevant announcements being in force at that time.
3.        International students who want to be admitted to study must be approved by the instructor in charge of the program. 

10. Document Required

Application documents
1.     Two copies of the completed application form.
2.     Two copies of a certificate according to the form of the Graduate Studies Department
3.     A letter of recommendation from the supervisor.
4. Two 1-inch photographs shot of a straight face, not wearing a hat or black sunglasses.
5. Two copies of evidence of name-surname changed or 2 copies of a marriage certificate. (In the case of name and/or surname does not match any other application evidence.)
6. Two copies of study transcript reports at undergraduate and master's degree levels.
7. Two copies of educational report certificates for a higher vocational certificate, a technical vocational certificate, or an equivalent diploma (except for those who graduated with a 4-year bachelor's degree program).
8. Two copies of a certificate of being a student in the last semester of a program.
9. Guidelines for conducting a research study.
10. Application fee of 500 baht (in case of applying via the Internet)

Songkran promotes community cooperation, unity and forgiveness. It is viewed as a time to symbolically wash away misfortunes, pray for prosperity for the coming year, reunite with family members, and honour ancestors and older adults.

This year Maejo University International College also won the 3rd prize of Songkran parade (small size institution) and 3rd prize of Lanna Lab (northern ground pork salad).
