Open house activity at Yupparaj Wittayal...

On November 6, 2024,
Assistant Professor Acting Capt. Dr. Jirachai Yomkerd led the Educational Cooperation Program (ECP) students#16 in participating in an open house activity at Yupparaj Wittayalai School. The group then visited the Central Chiang Mai Museums and significant religious sites in Chiang Mai, including Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan, Wat Phra Singh Woramahaviharn, and Wat Ket Karam. Additionally, they took part in a blood donation drive to honor the 72nd birthday of His Majesty King, dedicating the act as a royal tribute.

📝On November 20, 2024, Maejo University International College hosted the concluding day of the “Technical Short-term Training Program on Sustainable Organic Farming” for the Helvetas Laos delegation from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
The training topics in the morning were honored by Prof. Dr. Arnat Tancho, director of Maejo natural farming research and development center, who gave a lecture on Medical Cannabis and Garbage Disposal with Earthworm, along with a practical session with Dr. Watcharanan Thongma on Cannabis Propagation and Vermicompost at Maejo University’s Farm.
In the afternoon, we were honored by Dr. Suthira Sitthikun who gave a lecture on the topic of Community Waste Management along with a practical session with Asst. Prof. Dr. Jirachai Yomkerd and ECP#16 students also joined the training on the topic of How to Compost Dry Leaves at Ban Mae Du Community.
🏅The closing ceremony of the program was honored by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rapeephun Dangtungee, Dean of the International College, who presented certificates to Helvetas Laos training participants.
🌳Maejo University International College hopes this short-term training program has provided participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience through various learning centers on circular economy and innovative products from organic materials, application and utilization of biochar, innovation from organic materials, making compost from earthworms, and community waste disposal to serve as a model for development in communities in the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Maejo University Welcomes Helvetas Laos Delegation for “Technical Short-term Training Program on Sustainable Organic Farming.”
📆On November 19, 2024, the International College of Maejo University, led by Associate Professor Dr.Rapeephun Dangtungee, Dean of the International College, and Dr. Suthira Sitthikun, Assistant Dean, along with Assistant Professor Dr.Yuwalee Unpaprom, Associate Director, Office of Administration & Development, office director, lecturer and all international college staffs, warmly welcomed a delegation from Helvetas Laos, an organization from the Lao People's Democratic Republic(LPDR), which implements development projects in the areas of water and sanitation, agriculture and nutrition, education, and economic development.
The event took place at the LC5 Conference Room, Thepsatsathit Building. The delegation, comprising 16 members, participated in the “Technical Short-term Training Program on Sustainable Organic Farming.” Associate Professor Dr.Rapeephun Dangtungee delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices in agriculture.
♻️The first day of the training featured insightful lectures:
- "Biochar for Agriculture and Carbon Neutrality" by Assistant Professor Dr.Yuwalee Unpaprom.
- "Sustainable Organic Farming" by Associate Professor Dr.Rapeephun Dangtungee.
📝This program aims to equip the Helvetas Laos team with practical knowledge and innovative strategies for sustainable organic farming. Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, and Dr. Winitra Leelapattana, Associate Dean of the International College, participated in the 2024 UNTA Annual Assembly  under the theme “Leading the Way in Tropical Agriculture: Harnessing Innovation, Resilience, and Sustainability for a Vibrant Future." hosted by National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan. University Network for Tropical Agriculture (UNTA) aims to implement integration and create closer ties in order to improve higher education, training and research in the area of tropical agriculture. In this event, member institutions of the UNTA network signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a collaborative platform addressing challenges in tropical agriculture.

Marking the university’s 100th anniversary, ICS2024 brings together over 200 international scholars, researchers, and industry experts to explore sustainable development practices and solutions across various fields. With the theme “Driving Changes through University Social Responsibility (USR): Advocacy and Innovation of Public Welfare" and "Achieving a Sustainable Future: Innovative Application of Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture.” The conference includes keynote addresses, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations, and networking sessions to foster collaboration and idea exchange.

Associate Professor Dr. Weerapon Thongma, President of Maejo University, and Dr. Winitra Leelapattana, Associate Dean of the International College, attended in discussions with administrators and executives of National Chung Hsing University and National Chin-Yi University of Technology in Taiwan. This meeting centered around establishing an academic partnership to develop Dual Degree Programs designed to enhance educational opportunities for students.
The proposed collaboration includes a 2+2 program format for undergraduate degrees, allowing students to spend two years at Maejo University and two years in Taiwan to complete their degrees. At the master’s level, a 1+1 format is being considered, which would similarly enable students to gain international experience and credentials by completing one year at each institution. This partnership aims to foster cross-cultural learning, broaden academic perspectives, and equip students with skills that meet international standards.
Additionally, President also attended a meeting with 10 exchange students from the Faculty of Business Administration, Maejo University, who are participating in a three-month exchange program at the College of Management, National Chin-Yi University of Technology. The program allows these students to gain hands-on international experience, expand their academic and cultural perspectives, and develop skills in a global business environment.
